Associate Beneficiary
Texas Regional Paralympic Sport (TRPS) is dedicated to becoming the world leader in the Paralympic sports movement and promoting excellence in the lives of people with physical/visual disabilities. Today, there are more than 21 million Americans living with a physical disability, including tens of thousands of military personnel and veterans that have sustained serious injuries.

TRPS is working in the Texas region to help grow opportunities for these individuals to participate in ongoing sports and recreation programs at the community level. Programs in the Texas region are growing and include both recreational and competitive sports activities.  TRPS works closely with it's regional partner, the South Texas Regional Adaptive & Paralympic Sports group (STRAPS) within the San Antonio and South Central Texas area specifically.  Many of the athletes in both TRPS and STRAPS participate in events of the H-E-B Alamo Run Fest
How Make a Difference Events and the H-E-B Alamo Run Fest Determines the Beneficiary Donations

We are a big believer in an event being totally transparent about their beneficiary donations if an event claims to be donating money to a cause or causes.  As a participant in an event, if part of your purpose in running it is knowing that you are helping to support the designated charities, you should be able to know without question and specifically, how your participation helps benefit the designated event beneficiaries.

We created a clear formula that determines the minimum amount that will be set aside for our event beneficiaries as follows:

An amount that is at a minimum, equal to 6% of all the event entry fees, is designated as the 'beneficiary pool'.  This makes the amount to be donated extremely easy to determine and not subject to manipulation.  From this pool amount, then, no less than the first $5,000 goes to the Primary Beneficiary of the event.  A minimum of the next $2,000 within the 'pool' is then designated to the Secondary Beneficiary. A minimum of $1,000 is then designated to the Associate beneficiary.  Amounts donated to the three tiers of beneficiaries above these minimums, as dictated by the 'pool' amount, are then determined by Make a Difference events. Keep in mind that these are 'minimums' and that since we created our donations formula beginning with the 2014 event, the amounts donated as a result of this 'pool' amount have exceeded these minimums each year.  In addition, any amounts raised during the registration process - whereby individuals entering the event have the option to make an additional donation to one or more of the designated event beneficiaries  - go 100% to the event beneficiary they designate and are separate and not used in the calculation of the 'beneficiary pool', since these additional funds are effectively the individual beneficiary's funds, not ours, once they are added to their entry fees as a donation.  

The funds that make up the 'beneficiary pool' are a combination of funds brought together through our relationships with our sponsors as a result of their association with the event and funds that come directly from entry fees.  The event beneficiaries are each also able to conduct their own individual fundraising efforts tied to the event which we support, resulting in additional funds being raised through their association with the H-E-B Alamo Run Fest.  
The San Antonio Clubhouse is dedicated to the recovery of men and women with mental illness by providing opportunities for members to live, work, and learn, while contributing their talents through a community of mutual support.

Returning Heroes Home

The specific mission of Returning Heroes Home (a 501c3) is to raise much needed funds to help serve and support wounded, ill and injured Warriors and their family members at the Warrior and Family Support Center (WFSC) which is located on Fort Sam Houston, in close proximity to the San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC). 

The WFS Center provides coordinated services to patients, next-of-kin and extended family members with a primary focus on wounded Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom Warriors. As the Global War on Terrorism has continued, seriously injured Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines are evacuated from the theater of operations to major medical facilities located on military installations. SAMMC is one of the world's best trauma centers and many of these Wounded Warriors receive their medical care there. Due to the seriousness of their injuries, these Wounded Warriors remain at SAMMC for an extended period of time which, in many cases, exceeds 12 months. 

Wounded Warriors and their family members visit the WFSC to maintain contact with other military members or extended family members, to receive emotional support, answers to their questions, and to extend their rehabilitation away from the hospital. The rehabilitation involves learning to cope with war related disabilities as individuals, as couples, and as families.

The H-E-B Alamo Run Fest has helped raise close to $60,000 dollars for its various beneficiaries since it began, with close to $35,000 of that coming from the 2016 event.  Not bad for a relatively 'young' event.  But our vision, along with that of our sponsors, is to be able to do way more in the years to come, including a goal to at least double the figures from 2016 during our 5th Anniversary 2017 event and ultimately reach the 6 figures and higher range as the event continues to grow.  As in past years, the H-E-B Alamo Run Fest will be partnering with several beneficiaries in an effort to impact our community in a positive way. Each of those selected has a direct impact on San Antonio. The 2017 beneficiaries are listed below along with information and links to their own websites (click on their logo).  Additional beneficiaries may be added.  The 2018 event beneficiaries will be announced soon.

Our Primary Beneficiary for 2017, which has been selected with a significant portion of San Antonio's population in mind (the reason the city is known as 'Military City - U.S.A) will again be Returning Heroes Home.  With Joint Base San Antonio as one of largest joint military bases in the country (comprised of Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base) there are over 65,000 active duty military and 45,000 family members who call San Antonio home. It is our hope that the H-E-B Alamo Run Fest will be able to help positively impact some of the families who have given so much in support of our country.  

Besides a portion of your entry fee going to support these various charity partners, you also have the opportunity to do more if your passion so moves you. During the online registration process you will be offered the opportunity to make an additional donation to any of our charity partners. You can also choose to raise funds for a particular event beneficiary individually or as part of a fundraising team. Anyone (participant or not) can also make a donation through our website to one of our event beneficiaries or in support of a specific participant who is raising funds for them by clicking on the 'Make a Donation' link below

Together we can all make a difference through our efforts and participation in the Alamo Run Fest (See the section at bottom of this page for how we determine the donations to our beneficiaries.)
